Installing cellulose insulation along with proper AIR INFILTRATION DENIAL practices will significantly reduce the cost to heat and cool your home.Typically, a Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning system (HVAC) is designed to heat and cool a standard home, which is inherently poorly insulated and little or no weight is given to air infiltration. Most HVAC contractors don't bother to run the load calculations on a house. Those that do, use their normal program that often specify capacities for homes that they think will have over four air changes per hour! Then there are those HVAC contractors that go by a simple rule of thumb -five hundred square feet of conditioned space per one ton of system. Air changes per hour (ACH) are dictated by several items. First, the kind of insulation and the quality in which it is installed. The next is the amount of air infiltration denial that is performed. And finally, the care that is taken when defining the thermal envelope. For example: a home properly insulated with the correct Air Infiltration Denial in place, when tested by a blower door, will have an ACH of about .15. A home that is not properly insulated will in turn, when tested by a blower door, have an ACH of About .7 to 1.5. These factors combine to, A. require more capacity for heating and cooling (larger equipment), B. More energy to operate the equipment and C. continued infiltration of outside air through the home. When ECI insulates you home and employs the "ECI Advantage", we will work closely with the HVAC contractor to insure that the system is properly sized to provide optimum comfort, a healthier home, and the maximum efficiency. |
